Questions and answers
Do I need an account?
No. The desktop app works with no account and no network connection. Sign in only to sync and share with a team; see Sync.
Do my requests go through Porticol's servers?
Not from the desktop app: requests leave from your computer. The exceptions are
monitors, which a server runs on a schedule, runs you start
on the server through the REST API or porticol-cli --remote, and the
web client when it has no local agent paired and a team server's
operator has turned on sending from the server.
Is anything sent to Porticol?
The app asks the update server for a new version when it starts and once a day. Crash and usage reports are off until you turn them on, and Settings > Privacy shows exactly what they would send; see Your data.
Where are my collections kept?
In one SQLite file in the data folder on your computer, which Settings > Data shows. Secret values are in your operating system's keychain.
Can I use my Postman collections and scripts?
Yes. Import Postman collections and environments; see Import.
Porticol's scripts use Postman's pm object; see
Scripts and tests.
Can I run collections in CI?
Yes, with porticol-cli, from a file or from a workspace on the server, with JUnit,
JSON and HTML reports; see the command line reference.
What is the difference between Porticol Cloud and a team server?
They are the same server. Porticol Cloud is run for you. A team server runs on your own infrastructure for one organisation and is licensed per installation.
Can the web client reach localhost?
Only through the local agent: the desktop app in agent mode, or
porticol-agent, paired with the browser.
What happens if I lose every device?
Shared secret values open only on your devices and with your recovery key. Without either, they are lost, and Porticol can't recover them. Everything else in a server workspace is still on the server; see Shared secrets.
How do I get help?
Choose Contact support… in the command palette, or in Settings > About. Write what happened and, if you like, an address to reply to. Tick the box to attach diagnostics: the version, operating system, architecture and the last ten errors, with addresses, tokens and quoted text taken out. You see them before you send, and request content is never included. The request goes to the server you are signed in to, or to Porticol Cloud when you are signed out.
Settings > About also shows the version and build, links to the terms, privacy policy and security policy, and lists the third-party software Porticol includes with its licences.
