Sync
Porticol works without an account. Sign in when you want your collections and environments on more than one computer, or shared with a team.
Open Settings > Account and choose Porticol Cloud or a team server, giving the team
server's address, such as https://porticol.example.com. Sign in opens your browser
to sign in there, with your password, a second factor or your organisation's single
sign-on, and Porticol finishes signing in when you come back. Your local collections
stay on this computer either way.
The Account section then shows who you are signed in as, with Sign out, and your shared secrets. If this device is signed out from somewhere else, Porticol says so and asks you to sign in again.
Workspaces
The workspace switcher at the top of the sidebar lists the workspace on this computer and the workspaces you can reach on the server. Each has its own collections and environments. You can't switch while requests, runs, flows or sessions are running.
A role decides what you can do in a server workspace. A viewer reads but can't edit or send; Porticol says "You have view access to this workspace." and leaves out the controls that would change it.
How sync works
Edits in a server workspace are saved on your computer first, then sent to the server, and other people's edits arrive within seconds. The sidebar shows whether the workspace is synced, syncing, offline or has edits not synced yet.
Offline, your edits wait on your computer and are sent when you reconnect. Edits to different parts of a collection merge item by item. When you and someone else changed the same thing, the document shows a conflict, and the compare view sets the two side by side:
- Keep mine sends yours, with the server's other changes.
- Keep server drops yours.
- Keep both saves yours as a copy.
Move a workspace
In the workspace switcher, Move to and the server's name sends the workspace on this computer to the server, and Export to local… copies a server workspace back to this computer. History, runs, flows and globals stay where they are.
Sync is in some plans and not others; pricing lists them. A device's organisation can stop it copying a server workspace to the computer; see Managed deployment.
